And now this:
It's really not the BMW's fault. It's more the Italian stole me away. It's really the Piaggio BV350's fault. I found myself riding that thing almost exclusively, commuting almost daily rain, shine or fog. Plus weekends I looked forward to it more than the BMW. I just though, man if this Piaggio only had about 5 more HP it'd be just about perfect.
Enter the Ducati Sixty2. 399cc twin cylinder. Basically, 41 HP 25lb/ft torque and wet weight of right about 400lbs (a few lighter than the BV, I can tell) and what, 150 or so lighter than the C600.
I had to evaluate my riding really. I don't ride long distance; mostly 100 miles or so on a weekend and the Ducati will fit the bill perfectly for me. Yes, there is an 800cc version, but not interested in it.
First time for me riding an MC but will get all the nuances of real riding down I'm sure. (I rented a 250cc from Eagle riders for a day and found it relatively painless after 4 years of scooter riding.) Learning something new is good for the brain anyway.
Now for the dirty side of things. I took a bath on the trade, but was prepared. The thing is, I didn't know there was an "annual" service, figured It was just every 6000. Mine was due for the annual, plus a new battery (I had been nursing it for a while) and my headlight went out the morning I went to have it appraised for a trade it. So, I was upside down but I wrote a check for just a few hundred more than the service, battery, and headlight and they rolled the negative equity into the new bike at 0% interest plus I feel I got a respectable price on the new bike. Probably not the best $$ decision for sure. Still, I am not losing sleep and hope to enjoy the new bike for a long time.
