Service manual?

I tried the 7zip as you suggested... I don't quite understand how to view the file.

As it took me a couple of tries to figure it out. You have to extract it to a new folder. If at first don't succeed try again. You can't hurt it.

I have extracted it to my hard drive and a memory stick. What I have found is if you try to extract it to an external stick, it does not extract it all as when you extract it to the hard drive you get 100%.

I also tried to copy the downloaded file to an external hard drive just to store it but it can't be copied.

I would have to say that the 7zip is loaded with objects that are not related to viewing compressed files. My suggestion is to not use that option unless you either want your system scanned and your browser switched to Bing. I will have to restore my system to an earlier version to remove this. I think that I'll just burn it to a DVD and run it off of the disk.

I downloaded it from the Mega site and when I open it, it's in Italian or German. Am I doing something wrong?

When I downloaded the file from the mega Site my file had to be extracted to a new file using the 7zip file and as you mentioned a few other files came with it. I just went to the menu and deleted all the files that were downloaded and no issues since.

As for copying the files to another disk, good luck I am not capable of doing it

I repeat - this is the DVD image. It is not necessary to write to disk. Install Daemon Tools and enjoy.

I bought the manual (CD). I would have preferred a paper copy without having to print it myself, I guess I will have to live with it. For the money, they could have added the wiring diagrams, how annoying!
Having used many auto and bike manuals, I will say it is usable, with no wasted words. It really was written for professionals, as there are details left out that a novice might find helpful. I could say a few other criticisms, but, there is no other option. It is still much better then any "Chiltans" I have ever seen.

Why no shop manual yet?

What kind of manipulative BMW crap is this!

These scooters have been out for three years so BMW has no excuse for not providing some kind of owner available shop manual for our C 600-650 scooters!

Seems like customer manipulation to me.

Hmm...Customer manipulation in what way? You mean because by withholding easy access to the manuals they want their bikes serviced at the BMW shops? Not trying to be a wise guy, just curious as to why you say that.

Yes I would say the service aspect is part of it.

However, since we own a BMW motorcycle we should have access to any available manual that covers the machines we own. As an example, I would like to remove and paint my body panels and it would be nice to know where the fasteners (and hidden tabs) are located.

Maybe I am overly sensitive about stuff like this because good companies provide good customer service but manipulative companies do not. Harley Davidson and Freightliner Corp, in my opinion, are two of the worst (although even Harley Davidson provides manuals for their bikes).

As an example, Freightliner would not sell me a chassis service manual (with a wiring diagram) for my motorhome because I was not a verifiable truck repair facility. It didn't matter that my motorhome was long since out of warranty, they still would not sell it to me. On the other hand, Winnebago, the coach builder has always given me excellent customer service and provided any diagram I have ever asked for (many of them are even available on line). So the Winnebago part of my motorhome has excellent customer service but the "chassis by Freightliner people" basically says "screw you Mr. customer."

Therefore it appears to me that BMW is acting like the Freightliner people, and by default are saying "Screw you customers, you can't buy a manual even though the information is there and available to our shops."

Hope that answers your question, and no problem Steve, I didn't take it as you being a wise guy.

For what it's worth, I removed the front right panel with no problem by following the directions in the pwner's manual (last fall I dropped the bike and decided I would get the scratch fixed at a local body shop). I am way below average for all things mechanical. Other owners have purchased a CD....more info on another thread, although you likely know about that already.

I just ordered the CD version on E Bay, so, even though it lists only the 2012 models, it still may be all I will ever need.

However, if we owned a Harley, or a Honda, or a Suzuki, or a Yamaha, or a Piaggio, or a Vespa, or a Kawasaki, or a Victory (or most any other brand) we could easily get a shop manual for our bikes. Therefore BMW has no excuse for not making them available for their customers.

In 2003 when I purchased my first Bergman I rode home with the shop manual in the trunk. BMW says it is not available. BMW only wants us to keep coming back.

I like most folks want to know a few things I can do, I will not do anything that takes special tools or require shop teardown or overhaul.

You will find the cd version that I also purchased (out of Italy) was published in March 2013 and the one you can download is from June 2013. This cd will cover every bike back to the 1970's R bikes (r50 r75 r80) K bikes F bikes and all the rest. If you are a multi bike owner this will do you well.
