Makes little sense why they would change the J1772 to NACS. Tesla is only one EV manufacture of dozens of others why not Tesla change their cars and charger network. anyhow it looks NACA will win out since GM and Ford said they are dumping J connectors. This will make every level 1 & 2 home charger need a goofy adapter which we'll have to cram in our little compartment. Even with using a Tesla adapter now there is a lot of communication problems with most cars.Any word if BMW North Americria will be changing the CE 04 and their cars to the new NACS socket?
I am not certain about this, but I think that if you can't see the option for 30A charging it means your bike is not fitted with the high power charger. You have to choose the high charging option when the scooter is first bought - I don't think it can be fitted afterwards. I'm not sure the size of the cable is relevent to this. I use my Zappi car charger to charge my bike after selecting the 30A option. The standard "Granny Charger" that comes with the scooter charges at up to 10A I think - I only used it once just to try it out. The battery is 10 kWh so at 250 V and 10A you are shoving in 2.5 kW. This will take about 4 hours from empty to full. The dealer should be able to confirm wether you have the high power option or not.I am at a lost as to what I am supposed to ask my dealer to determine my scooter came equipped with the quick charge option from the factory. I have this read now and again but still lost on context.
1. If I go to charge settings in the TFT menu I can only select 6A or 8A, not 30A
2. I use a Level 2 charger 240 vac and 32 amps and change my settings in the charge menu to 8A
3. Post #8 says they (ie the scooter owner) '...changed the maximum current in the scooter settings to 30 amp...'. I do not see nor can select 30A, only 6A or 8A is shown in the TFT menu charge setting when at a Level 2 charger station.
4. Post #11 says '...unless your CE 04 has been equipped with the quick charge option from factory, it will be limited to 10 amp...".
Are CE04s all able to charge at 10A and if so why is not not a TFT menu settings option to select instead of just 6A or 8A?
Plus how would one know if it was charging at 10A? When charging my TFT charging screen says MAX 30A then under it it shows 8A.
5. In Post #12 it says '...There are two different chargers - a standard 110 volt charger and an optional 220 volt charger $995. If your bike came with the smaller charge system you cannot upgrade because the bigger charger module is integrated in the bike...."
My bike came with the standard USA 110v (thin charging cable) so would that mean the bike does not have the quick charge option part built into my scooter?
Best I can figure from reading all these post is the following:
* (Post #12) The $995 bmw thick cable won't do anything for someone if their scooter did not come with the quick charge option from the factory. Does that statement mean if the thick cable came with the bike the bike can use it, meaning the bike was built to accept that higher charge or is it saying the thicker cable wont' work if the bike itself did not come with a quick charge option built 'into' the bike itself (ie part of the bikes battery charging unit)?
Heck, was at the dealer the other day and the sales guy was asking another person about not getting the $995 cable to make the cost of the scooter less expensive (at least that is what I understood the question to be). Maybe, when ordering one can option the CE04 with the higher charging modular plus then pay $995 for the thicker cable.
thank you

Thank you for the input. My understanding, could be mistaken, is in the USA we do not have A1 and A2 permits thus thinking all CE04s sold in USA come with full hp. Nor am I thinking a ce04 limited to A1 vs A2 would effect charging rate; instead that is determined by if scooter came equipped with the quick charge option from the factory.Hello I don't know if it can help but here what I know.
My scooter does not have de quick charger option but I can charge up to 10 Amp anywhere on regular Station not the DC or Tesla rapid chager at home when I charge on 110V it's whatever the amp on my circuit so probably 6 amp slow charge.
My question is I don't know if they sell the European version of the scooter in the States in France for exemple you can have the A1 permit or A2 the A1 allow to drive motorbike or scooter but not at there full power so the CE04 can have a lower output so less Horse power if you have a A2 permit them it's 42 HP full.
My question to you is maybe you CE04 is not full power and this is why you are limited to 8Amp recharge. I don't know you must ask the dealer who sold it to you.
And yes if you want the quick charge it must be install within the scooter the fast charging cable won't change work on your.
Of what I understand as well that to keep the battery in good shape it need to cool off before charging and that the slow charge make it less over heat so it prolong the life of the battery.

I can confirm in Australia, in my single phase house, a 7.4KW Wallbox, can fast charge the fast charge model of ce04. BUT you have to go into the scooter settings and turn up the amps to 30. Took me a minute to figure that out! *I am not an electrician so please dont blame me if it doesn't work for you. I have this one: Wallbox Pulsar Max Electric Vehicle Charger (7.4kW, Type 2, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, OCPP, Indoor/OutdoorI'll be getting my CE 04 in a few weeks (much excitement), BMW Australia has been giving me conflicting information on the specs of the quick charger option.
I have been told that I need 3 phase in order to get the 6.9kw quick charger capacity (I'm assuming 3x10A?).
I have also been told that it will take a 30A single phase charge.
Can the CE 04 with a Type 2 plug (Australian models are using the type 2) , take 30A on a single phase or can it only quick charge on 3 phase?
Has anyone had experience getting 30a from a single phase with the Type 2 plug (Mennekes)?
This might make or break for me as all the quick chargers around me are single phase 7.4 kw.
Just Google "J1772 cable" Plenty available.I don't know about the plugs sold in AU, but I can confirm that the CE 04 charges plenty fast on single-phase 240V at 30A: most houses in the United States only have single-phase 240V.
Just so you are aware, there is nothing magical about the BMW charger cable - you can use whatever J1772 cable you like. I happen to use a Tesla cord because BMW sells the CE 04 with a shitty 120V cable in the United States, rather than their Flexible Fast Charger (120V/240V).
